Bio-Energy Capital Grant Scheme

The Bio-Energy Capital Grant Scheme was part of the UK Environmental Transformation Fund (ETF) funded by the DECC (Department of Energy & Climate Change) but the last round of the scheme closed in 2010. The Bio-Energy Capital Grant Scheme provided capital grants towards the cost of equipment for the installation of biomass-fuelled heat and/or combined heat and power (CHP) projects (including anaerobic digestion). The scheme was aimed at businesses, organisations and charities in commercial, industrial and community sectors.

There is a similar scheme to the Bio-Energy Capital Grant Scheme available in Wales known as The Wood Energy Business Scheme 2. This scheme offers grants to micro-businesses, SMEs and social enterprises. More information can be found on the www.forestry.gov.uk website.

The Biomass Heat Scheme was formerly available in Scotland to small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) offering grants for up to 50% of the difference in the cost of installing biomass or CHP equipment compared to a fossil fuel alternative (maximum funding of £100,000 per installation). The third round of the Biomass Heat Scheme has now closed.
