Carbon dioxide, along with other gases, naturally form a ‘blanket’ around the earth which helps to keep the solar heat provided by the sun within the earth’s atmosphere, thus ensuring that plant remains at a constant, relatively warm temperature. This ‘blanket’, however, has thickened considerably in more recent times causing global warming, and cutting carbon emissions is therefore vital for the future of the planet. Cutting carbon emissions will help to stop this extreme greenhouse effect and there are things we can all do every day to assist.
Carbon dioxide is produced in many ways, from power stations burning fossil fuels, transportation and even our own homes. In fact 27% of carbon emissions come from our homes and 25% from transport. Cutting carbon emissions does, therefore, really begin at home.
Building regulations were tightened during 2006 to encourage better energy efficiency in new buildings thus contributing to cutting carbon emissions. But there are many things we can all do in our everyday lives which will help. Take a look at our energy saving tips Energy Saving Tips for some great ideas which you can start today.
In terms of cutting carbon emissions from transportation, it is a good idea to keep car use to a minimum and, in particular, consider walking or cycling for shorter journeys. There are also many alternative fuels becoming more widely available, which usually have much lower emissions than petrol or diesel. Take a look at the transport section of our sitemap Energy Saving Sitemap for more details.
As we can’t cut carbon emissions completely from our lives, also consider offsetting your emissions by contributing to environmental projects. Click here for more details Offset Carbon Emissions
