There is a plethora of beauty products on the market today with lotions and potions for every body part, skin type and taste, but there are not as many eco friendly beauty products. This is on the increase, however, with more eco friendly beauty products becoming available as consumers start to consider the environmental and health implications of some of the chemicals we use in our daily lives.
With women generally using more beauty products than men, there are perhaps understandably more eco friendly beauty products available in the women’s product ranges. ‘Eco friendly beauty products’ is also a general term and there are actually a number of options and considerations.
The first thing that springs to mind is perhaps the use of predominantly natural ingredients and there are quite a number of Natural Beauty Products on the market today. The Cosmetic Organic Standard also covers natural products and those products carrying the COSMOS-Standard mark will meet their criteria for ingredients. Along the same lines are Organic Beauty Products which tend to be made from natural ingredients with the added environmental bonus of having been produced organically. Look out for an organic certification symbol for added reassurance.
There are other considerations with regards to eco friendly beauty products, however, such as their actual production and packaging. There are some hand made products available which arguably have less environmental impact than those using machinery, and some products come with minimal packaging to reduce waste. You could also contact product manufacturers to find out about the company’s green credentials asking, for example, whether their products are tested on animals.
