GREEN TRAVEL
Travel, and car travel in particular, is a big part of our modern lives and is often a major contributor to our carbon footprints.  Whilst some travel is undoubtedly unavoidable, there are ways we can reduce the environmental impact of this, often saving money and benefiting our health at the same time.  Take a look at the points below for some tips and suggestions.

- A quarter of all car journeys are under 2 miles long - walking or cycling for short trips will keep you fit and reduce your carbon footprint

- Consider setting up a walking bus to your child’s school - the children will be healthier and traffic congestion, and the associated safety issues, outside the school gates will be reduced

- Think about how you drive - not driving too fast and making sure your car is well maintained will reduce fuel consumption and therefore emissions

- Consider using public transport or car sharing, whether it be to work or the shops.  You  may know someone doing the same journey or could use a car sharing network

- There are a wide range of alternative fuels you could consider for your vehicle which would reduce its environmental impact

- Consider whether flying is the only or the best option for longer or international journeys, as this will contribute greatly to your carbon footprint.  Perhaps you could make the journey by other forms of public transport or consider holidaying closer to home. Check out our green tourism page
