The Energy Saving Trust is a government and private sector-funded organisation set up in 1992 following the Rio Earth Summit. A non-profit organisation with offices in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, the Energy Saving Trust has four main areas in which it works:
- Providing quality assurance for goods, services and installers.
- Expert insight and knowledge about energy saving.
- Helping local authorities and communities to save energy.
- Supporting consumers to take action.
In undertaking these tasks the Energy Saving Trust promotes the use of cleaner fuels in transport, encourages the use of better insulation and greater heating efficiency in buildings and homes, and champions small-scale renewable energy such as solar and wind power.
The Energy Saving Trust offers a range of expert and impartial advice and information on energy saving ideas and initiatives. The Energy Saving Trust also offer programmes for a wide variety of groups and individuals including businesses, consumers (including homeowners and motorists), housing associations and local authorities, schools and educational establishments, and vehicle manufacturers. The Energy Saving Trust administers some grant schemes in support of their goals with different funding available in the different countries of the UK.
