Environmental science is a generic description often used to cover what is now a very wide range of environmental subjects on offer at higher education establishments. The environmental science field is not a new one, with subjects in this field on offer for many years, but the number of courses continues to grow as interest in our environment and what can be done to preserve it increases.
Specific subjects such as, for example, environmental biology, environmental earth studies, environmental geography, environmental protection and many, many more are on offer in the universities and colleges of the UK, many of which could come under an environmental science heading or department. Environmental Education is offered within UK schools as part of the National Curriculum and, with so many subjects on offer at higher education establishments, there is no shortage of opportunities for students to take their interest in the environment to the next level whether they have a more scientific or artistic educational background.
Some environmental science courses are, as is the case in many subject areas, designed to lead to particular professions in the environmental field, whilst others are of a more general nature.
