Since the introduction of Fairtrade Cotton into the UK market at the end of 2005, a wide selection of fairtrade clothes have become available. If you are concerned about where your clothes come from and who may have been exploited in their production process, buying fairtrade clothes will leave you secure in the knowledge that at least the farmers at the bottom of the supply chain have been fairly treated. In addition, fairtrade materials have to enter the country via a transparent supply chain with other companies in this chain required to submit evidence of their efforts to meet recognised labour standards.
The variety of fairtrade clothes available is always on the increase and you can already buy a wide selection of products including ladieswear, menswear, underwear and baby clothes. A variety of different fairtrade materials are now also becoming more widely available such as silk and hemp as well as cotton. Many fairtrade clothes are available from online stores but you can also buy many products on the high street, however, with Marks and Spencer now stocking a wide range of fairtrade clothes.
