If you have children it can sometimes be difficult thinking of ways to keep them entertained. There are loads of green activities for kids, however, which will not only keep them busy but will also help to quench their thirst for information. Children are naturally curious about the world around them so green activities for kids are an excellent way to teach them about new things.
Green activities for kids can be simple and free or more of a full-on day trip to somewhere new. Gardening is a great way to teach children about how plants grow and where food comes from, so why not make them their own vegetable patch, get them some planters for the patio or, especially if you don’t have a garden, get some pots for on the windowsill? Take a look at our Organic Gardening page for tips on this. Other green activities for kids include going on nature trails or treasure hunts. Even urban areas have parks where you can hunt out different types of trees, flowers, birds and other wildlife. Older children could take photos or draw pictures of what they find and compile a log book.
For wet afternoons, keep plenty of bits of ‘rubbish’ for junk modelling or cut up old Christmas/birthday cards so that they can make their own for friends and family.
Not only are these green activities for kids fairly simple to organise, they are also inexpensive or even free! So next time your children are bored, look at the world through their eyes and you’ll find that there is plenty to discover on your own doorstep.
