In September 2008 the UK government announced the next stage of their Home Energy Saving Programme including more wide reaching home insulation grants. It is widely acknowledged that cavity wall and loft insulation are excellent ways to lower energy bills in the home, and the home insulation grants now available make it easier for more homeowners and private tenants to take advantage of these measures.
Home insulation grants are currently available via the Nest (Wales), the Energy Assistance Package (Scotland), the Warm Front Scheme (England), and the Warm Homes Scheme (Northern Ireland). Following the government announcement in September 2008, more homes will be eligible for home insulation grants with a large amount of funding coming from the energy companies.
In a nutshell, the home insulation grants available mean that:
- Those over the age of 70 and in receipt of certain benefits will be entitled to have free cavity wall and loft insulation installed by their power company.
- Other householders will qualify for at least 40% off the costs of insulating their homes.
