If you are considering improving your home’s insulation or heating you may be eligible for a Home Energy Efficiency Scheme (HEES) grant. The Home Energy Efficiency Scheme is designed to assist people in Wales in making their home warmer, more energy efficient, safer and more secure. The Home Energy Efficiency Scheme is split into two, one aimed at householders who are pregnant or families with children under the age of 16, and the other aimed at lone parent families with children under 16, the over 60s and those who are disabled or chronically sick. If you are in the first category and claim income or disability related benefits you could be eligible for up to £2,000 towards home improvements. The second group may be eligible for the Home Energy Efficiency Scheme Plus grant which is worth up to £3,600 or up to £5,000 if oil central heating is required.
The Home Energy Efficiency Scheme grants are available to go towards or cover the costs of, for example, installing loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, draught proofing, electric storage heaters, low energy light bulbs or smoke alarms. You will also receive energy efficiency advice to suit your home and to help you further reduce your fuel bills.
