Despite the advantages of modern science and all that that can offer, many of us are trying to live a more natural life and to consider whether we need, for example, so many chemicals in our daily life. Natural beauty products are just one small consideration in this regard with more products becoming available as demand increases. Natural beauty products have effectively been used for hundreds of years, so for many this is a way to get ‘back to basics’.
Natural beauty products vary and it is always worth checking out the actual ingredients to make sure that they are as natural as they profess to be. Some natural beauty products are made with essential oils and you can also make your own with the right guidance. Either consult an aromatherapist or make sure you read up on the subject as some essential oils can be harmful in certain circumstances.

A further consideration is whether beauty products have been tested onanimals. Finished cosmetic products tested on animals have not been licensed in the UK since 1998. This does not mean, however, that the ingredients within the product have not been tested, and in fact, a very large number of ingredients will have been tested on animals at some point in the past. The Humane Cosmetics Standard (HCS – leaping bunny logo) ensures that the product is completely free from animal testing with each company adhering to a fixed cut-off date after which no ingredients have been tested on animals.
