Recycling should be something we all undertake as part of our everyday lives and a wide variety of waste materials are now collected at the kerbside for recycling. The next stage to recycling, however, is buying recycled products. The use of recycled products means that less virgin materials are used and the energy required to produce products from recycled materials is often lower than when using virgin resources.
Recycled products cover a multitude of everyday items from paper to a piece of furniture! Buying second hand furniture or other items for your home such as toys or even a car is all recycling! Recycled paper is one of the more obvious recycled products, with many stationery items available and in common use. This is a great way to reduce the use of new trees to make paper and can still be put in the recycling bin again after use. There are many other recycled products available, however.
Some plastic and glass bottles are made from recycled materials so look out for any information on such products as to whether this is wholly or partly the case. In addition, recycled products such as ceramic, glass and metal floor tiles are available, as are pet bedding, play equipment, compost and much more. Whatever you are buying, there is a chance that there are recycled products available, so check labelling. Alternatively search the Recycled Products Guide for 1000s of products made at least partly from recycled materials.
Reducing our dependence on virgin materials is one area which can significantly help to reduce our impact on the planet, and recycling and using products made from recycled materials are easy ways to help achieve this.
