Tetra Paks are a brand of cartons used for drinks and there is a good chance that you use some in your daily life. Despite their prevalence, however, recycling Tetra Paks has always been difficult due to the fact that they are made with a number of materials. Recycling Tetra Paks is on the increase now, though, with the manufacturer leading the way in encouraging recycling schemes.
Recycling Tetra Paks in some countries is already at a high level, but is currently only at about 4% in the UK meaning that most of the two billion cartons we use each year are going into landfill. Recycling Tetra Paks involves separating the paperboard, polyethylene and aluminium foil which can then be reused to make paper-based products and items such as garden furniture and playground equipment.
Local authorities are being encouraged to provide facilities for recycling Tetra Paks either by way of kerbside collections or large recycling bins. In addition, Tesco has joined forces with the manufacturer to provide recycling points at many of their stores. More information on this can be found on the Tetra Pak website. You will probably know if your local authority collects Tetra Paks at the kerbside, but if you are unsure or if you wish to find out about other recycling facilities, visit the interactive map on the Tetra Pak website where you can see what is available in your area. If your council is not offering facilities, why not get in touch with them and ask them to consider recycling Tetra Paks? You can also post your Tetra Paks for recycling by downloading address labels from the website, although this is not a freepost service.
