There are many ways of Saving Energy at Home but here are some of the key areas to get you started.
Loft Insulation - You could be saving energy at home by installing loft insulations as about a third of your space heating costs could be escaping through your roof. Simply by insulating your loft to the recommended depth of 270mm, you can save wasted energy and money. You can even do it yourself!
Cavity Wall Insulation - Un-insulated cavity walls cost you money. Up to 33 per cent of the heat produced in your home is lost through the walls. The good news is that cavity wall insulation is quick, clean and relatively inexpensive to install and a great way of saving energy at home and reducing your annual fuel bills by over £100.
Energy Efficient Boiler - Is your boiler energy efficient? If it's 10 to 15 years old then it probably isn't. Replacing your old boiler with a new high efficiency condensing boiler will save you around a third on your heating bills straight away.
Double Glazing - If you don't already have double glazing in your home, it's definitely worth thinking about. If you can't afford to replace all the windows, why not choose the rooms that cost you the most to heat? You could be saving energy at home by reducing heat loss through windows by half.
Energy Saving Lighting - Lighting accounts for 10-15% of our electricity bill. Don’t light rooms that aren’t in use and begin to install low energy bulbs. Their initial cost is higher than conventional bulbs but they use much less power and last a lot longer. Low energy bulbs can save you up to £100 over their lifetime. You can now find all shapes and sizes of energy efficient light bulbs in specialist shops and large chains like B&Q and Ikea so you don’t have to compromise on the kind of light you want.
