Using rechargeable batteries is a great way to reduce battery waste, but you still require some energy to recharge the batteries, which is where solar battery chargers can come in. Solar battery chargers do what they say on the box, and recharge batteries using solar energy.
As well as reducing the need to use mains power, solar battery chargers also have the advantage of being portable. Some models come in a small carry case, but all can simply be transported to wherever you are going, particularly useful if you are unsure whether you will have access to a mains socket. Solar battery chargers simply need sunlight to start charging the batteries and can be positioned to catch the most rays. There are different products on the market, which tend to be quite inexpensive, usually offering recharging for two to four batteries of the type AA, AAA, C or D. Charging times vary but are usually a minimum of about two hours, depending on the type of battery being charged, how much charge they have left in them and the strength and consistency of the sunlight.
Solar battery chargers are a great way to minimise energy use. Most of us use batteries in our daily lives, but by using rechargeable batteries and recharging them using solar energy, you can reduce their negative environmental impact.
