Standby Buster

The Standby Buster is a remote controlled device designed to ensure that appliances are switched off completely when not in use, thus saving energy and money. It is recommended by the Energy Saving Trust.

Setting up the Standby Buster couldn’t be easier. Simply plug the product into the wall socket, check the remote is connected (instructions supplied – just involves pressing a couple of buttons) and plug your appliance or multi socket board into the Standby Buster. Four zone settings are available so you can have up to four appliances/groups of appliances operated by one remote control. And that’s it. Thereafter to turn the appliance(s) off just press OFF for that zone and they will be switched off completely. To turn on again, just press ON. The power consumption of the device is under 1W.

Of course turning everything off at the plug is the cheapest way to save energy, but it is easy to forget peripherals such as DVD players in particular. The Standby Buster ensures that everything connected to it is switched off and is also particularly useful if sockets are difficult to access.

At under £15 for a socket and remote control, this product should pay for itself in under a year and additional sockets are available for about £9. The packaging of the product was almost entirely cardboard which can be recycled.
