Tropical Wholefoods Fairtrade Apricot Kernels are available in three flavours and we tried the natural kernels and the Tamari roast kernels (chilli roast also available). They are available in 50g bags and 500g sharing tubs.
The apricot kernels look like a small nut and, as you’d expect, have a crunchy texture. They are rich in mono- and poly-unsaturated fat and fibre so make for a healthy snack. The natural apricot kernels I personally found to be rather bland in taste although with a hint of almond, but the Tamari Roast were a much more interesting flavour, and I’d be happy to have them for a snack.
A 50g bag of Tropical Wholefoods Fairtrade Apricot Kernels costs 95p and the 500g sharing tub costs £7.99. I was unable to find any other Fairtrade apricot kernels available but these prices compare well with non-Fairtrade products. The plastic packets will be difficult to recycle.
Thanks to Tropical Wholefoods for sending us a sample of this product. (NB these are not bitter apricot kernels – more information available on the Tropical Wholefoods website).
