Tropical Wholefoods Fairtrade Dried Fruit

Tropical Wholefoods offer a wide range of Fairtrade dried fruit and nuts and we tried the Sundried Apricots, Organic Dried Mango and Organic Dates.

Firstly, we tried the Fairtrade Sundried Apricots which contain sulphur dioxide as a preservative (although there is an unsulphured product available from Tropical Wholefoods if you prefer). These weren’t as moist as some dried apricots but had a pleasant texture that wasn’t too chewy. They were also really flavoursome so great as both a snack and for use in cooking. A bonus would be if these were organically produced like some of the other Tropical Wholefoods products.

Next up we tried the Organic Fairtrade Mango, which contain no added ingredients and are Soil Association certified. The flavour of these was intense and delicious so again would also be great added to cooking. They were fairly chewy but this is normal for dried mango.

Lastly, we tried the Fairtrade Organic Dates. I am a particular fan of dates, and these didn’t disappoint. They were really tasty and not overly dry. As with the mangos they also have Soil Association certification. The packet also had a couple of recipes on it which were an added bonus!

The prices of these products are about £1.90 for 200g of Apricots, £1.90 for 100g of Mango and £1.75 for 200g of Dates, all of which are competitive, with the mango being particularly good value. The plastic packets may be recyclable where facilities exist.

Thanks to Tropical Wholefoods for sending us samples of these products.
