Tropical Wholefoods Snack Bars

Tropical Wholefoods Snack Bars are both Soil Association and Fairtrade Foundation certified and are suitable for vegetarians.

I tried four varieties of the Tropical Wholefoods Snack Bars, Date & Walnut, Mango & Brazil, Apricot & Kernel and Banana & Honey, and there are an additional two flavours available. These fruit, nut and cereal ‘health bars’, as they are described on the wrappers, are made from natural ingredients most of which are organic and some of which are Fairtrade. There is very little added sugar in the bars which are mainly sweetened with honey and apple juice. As a result I feel very happy giving them to my young child as a healthy snack.

The four varieties I tried were all very tasty. The bars were not crumbly (an added bonus if offering them to small children) and, whilst there was some variation in terms of moistness between the flavours, were not too dry. They also weren’t chewy but had a lovely texture. I found that the flavours within all the bars came through well. My personal favourite was probably the Mango & Brazil bar whilst I was a little less keen on the Banana & Honey, although this was better than I expected as I am often not a fan of banana-flavoured products which can be overly sweet.

These snack bars cost about 60p-70p each which is more expensive than some similar brands, although most of those I looked at were either organic or Fairtrade but not both. The plastic wrappers will probably be tricky to recycle in most areas.
