Ubuntu Fairtrade Cola is available in 500ml plastic bottles or 330ml cans. It is made with Fairtrade sugar from Malawi and Zambia which accounts for 98% of the ingredients (excluding water). This is currently the only Fairtrade certified Cola.
We didn’t know what to expect with this Cola product as some non-branded Colas aren’t great, but we were pleasantly surprised. As with all Cola drinks, Ubuntu Fairtrade Cola is best served chilled, and we found it to be a refreshing, tasty drink. Cola tends to come down to personal taste, as many consumers have a distinct preference even between the leading brands, but this is certainly worth a try. And there is the added bonus that you are supporting sugar suppliers in Africa firstly due to the fact that it is Fairtrade and also because Ubuntu plough a proportion of their profits into development projects for producers.
The cans retail at about 80p, so somewhat more expensive than leading brands, and the bottles at about £1.20, making them a little more competitive with the main Cola brands. The plastic bottles or cans are recyclable.
Thanks to Ubuntu for sending samples of these products.
