Waste recycling is a hot topic in the UK as we realise that there is not a never-ending supply of land fill sites and that we can in fact recycle over 60% of our waste. Whilst we are somewhat behind many of European neighbours, waste recycling in the UK is increasing as facilities become more widely available and our awareness of the situation is broadened.
On a domestic level everyone can ‘do their bit’ in terms of waste recycling and most local authorities now collect segregated waste in order to ensure that as much as possible is recycled. You may already have separate dustbins or containers for different types of rubbish. In addition, there may be facilities in your local area where you can deposit waste not collected from your home in order that it does not end up in a landfill site. And waste recycling needn’t be difficult or time consuming. Once you have established what you can recycle, simply separate your rubbish as you go along. You may then need to make the occasional trip to a recycling centre but this can probably be combined with another journey when it suits you.
Waste recycling covers a large number of product types including:
- Aluminium
- Paper & Card
- Glass
- Plastics
- Steel
- Wood
- Garden Waste
- Clothes & Textiles
…and much more. Before you throw anything away think about whether it could be recycled or reused.
