Water Conservation

Water is considered by the UN to be a major issue for the twenty-first century. Water conservation must be improved world-wide in order to ensure that clean drinking water does not become a luxury. A very small percentage, about 3%, of the earth’s water is fresh water and almost 69% of that is frozen, leaving an even smaller amount for potential consumption. So, despite it seeming like there is water everywhere, water conservation is actually critical, as humans cannot consume salt water.

There are many ways in which we can all take part in water conservation, starting at home. Simple things such as not running the tap whilst brushing your teeth and only boiling the water you require in the kettle all help to conserve water. In addition you can very simply collect rainwater for use in the garden. Take a look at our rainwater harvesting page for more information. For lots of ideas for water conservation around the home and garden visit our saving water page.

In addition to water conservation at home, it is also important to think about the water used by businesses. Check out our water saving for business page for more information and useful links on this subject. You should also speak to your water company who may have tips on saving water and take a look at our rainwater harvesting and greywater recycling pages for further ideas.
