Cheap Gas and Electricity Bills

September 2010It seems that the summer is now drawing to an end and it won’t be long before the milder temperatures give way to autumn and winter. So is there anything you should be thinking about with regards to energy saving as the colder months approach? Well, here at UK Energy Saving we have come up with a few pointers which should save you energy and money!

CHEAP AND CHEERFUL ENERGY SAVING TIPS - These suggestions will cost little or nothing but will undoubtedly save energy.

  • Check your central heating now to make sure it is working properly. Leave it until the temperature drops and you’ll find it more difficult to get it fixed if there are any problems as so many other people will be doing the same!
  • Have your boiler serviced, again to pick up any issues before the colder weather kicks in. If you are thinking about a new boiler this is a good opportunity to invest in an energy efficient model.
  • Make sure your thermostat isn’t on too high; turning it down by 1°C can cut your heating bills by 10%.
  • Switch to a green tariff. You will use more power over the winter so at least you’ll be doing your bit towards keeping it green. Click here to switch energy suppliers for a better deal.
  • Invest in energy saving light bulbs. You will have your lights on more in the winter so will be saving yourself money in the long term.
  • Make sure your home is draught proofed . This is a cheap way of saving money on your heating bills.
  • As the evenings draw in, close your curtains at dusk to keep heat in.

ENERGY SAVING INVESTMENTS - This might be a good time to consider some longer term energy saving improvements to your home. These will involve some initial outlay but will save you money in the long run.

  • Install double glazing and save about £135 a year as well as 0.3 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
  • Loft insulation is an easy way to reduce heat loss in your home, saving energy and money.
  • Cavity wall insulation is worth considering if your home doesn’t already have it. You could save over £100 a year on your heating bills.
