Nest is a new Welsh Assembly Government programme from April 2011 offering energy efficiency improvements to householders in Wales. Nest replaces the previous Home Energy Efficiency Scheme in tackling fuel poverty. Similar schemes are available in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Nest is available to householders who are in receipt of means tested benefits and privately own or are privately renting a domestic property. In addition the property must have an energy efficiency rating of F or G which would indicate that the home offers poor energy efficiency. The Nest scheme aims to tackle the energy efficiency of a property ultimately enabling householders to benefit from a warmer home and lower energy bills.
The Nest website indicates that homes will be assessed individually to determine which energy efficiency measures are needed and will be most effective. These could include measures such as insulation, draught proofing and boiler replacement. Additionally, advice on areas such as energy tariffs is available. The energy saving measures will be implemented by British Gas who is the Nest partner for the scheme.
