Whilst a considerable amount of recyclable waste is now collected from the kerbside, local authorities will also provide a large recycling centre in order for you to be able to dispose of your additional waste or materials which are not collected from your home. The recycling centre is often the place traditionally known as ‘the tip’, but nowadays more and more of the waste is recycled where possible rather than being disposed of in land fill sites.
A major recycling centre will typically have sections for garden waste, cardboard, chemical disposal and banks for glass, plastic etc. In addition there is often a resale area where unwanted furniture and other household items, bicycles or toys can be deposited for sale. These centres are for household waste only as businesses are responsible for their own waste management.
In addition you will usually find a more local recycling centre with a number of banks for glass, plastic, paper or clothing, amongst other items. These can be found in many villages and towns and are often located in places such as public car parks or at public houses. Due to their local nature they are very convenient for everyday waste and will save you the journey to the main recycling centre.
Over 60% of our household rubbish could be recycled so take advantage of your local recycling centres and help to slow down the filling of land fill sites.
You should be able to find the location of your local recycling centre in your telephone directory or alternatively take a look at www.recyclenow.com
