Wattson Energy Monitor Review

Compared with the other monitors we have tested the Wattson comes across as being a lot more sophisticated. The Wattson Energy Monitor measures your household energy consumption in real time in either pounds or wattage and setting it up is very easy. As with all wireless electricity monitors the Wattson has an electricity detecting device which is clipped onto the mains supply cable where it enters your electricity meter and you then place the well designed unit in your house and instantly see how much wattage you are using along with the cost in pounds.

The Efergy, Eco-Eye and Wattson Energy Monitor can all display the current electricity usage in Watts, but whereas Efergy and Eco-Eye display equivalent daily carbon emissions and financial cost, Wattson (CO2 output in Holmes mentioned below) displays the equivalent cost per year. Therefore, when the kettle is on, Wattson will display £3,000 which is the amount it would cost if the kettle were left on for a whole year. Because of its futuristic design the Wattson is also a fascinating addition as a focal point and conversation piece especially when the lights move from blue to red as consumption increases

The big difference between the Wattson and the other monitors we have reviewed is that you can download and analyse your consumption through its Holmes software (see graph below). On the downside it uses a mains adaptor and although the quick set up instructions are easy to follow you will need to download the Holmes (Software to download data for graphs and trends) PDF to understand how to use the data.

Our final view is if you want to analyse your consumption then the Wattson gives you far more detailed information and is well designed but if you want a simple monitor go for the Eco-Eye or Efergy monitors. Whichever monitor you decide on I can guarantee you will switch things off.
